Power devolution to ADCs likely this month: Thangmilien

Imphal, August 09 2010: Chairman of the Hill Areas Committee of the State Assembly, Thangmilien Kipgen today said that devolution of power to the Autonomous District Councils is most likely within this current month.

Addressing a felicitation function of Roingam Thanga, who was elected from the Bungte Chiru ADC constituency in the recently concluded ADC elections held at the community hall of the Bungte Chiru, the chairman of the HAC said that process for handing over powers to the ADCs is nearly complete and the devolution of powers is likely within the current month August.

He also expressed hope that with the revival of the ADCs after about 20 years of abeyance, development could be brought about in the interior areas of the hill districts.

But to achieve development in the areas, bringing smaller groups of people residing in the areas to a common platform is needed first.

Thangminlien also assured of extending all cooperation on his part in the efforts of the councilors of the ADCs in bringing all round development to their respective ADC constituencies.

The function, graced by Thangminlien as chief guest, was presided over by the Chairman elect Sh Seipu of the Sadar Hill ADC.

Member elect Raoingam Thanga and pastor of the Bungte Baptist Church, Rev LD Thangawan attended as guests of honour.

In his speech at the gathering, chairperson of the Sadar Hills ADC, Sh Seipu said that he will serve the people without any bias of community or tribe.

He also sought the cooperation of the people in his service the people.
