Imphal, October 08 2008: While regretting the recent incident of violence in the manipur University campus over the issue of reservation for tribal candidates, Manipur University Students' Union has appealed to all concerned to desist from any activity that could undermine sanctity of the highest institution of learning in the State.

Further contending that had university authorities as well as past functionaries of MUSU conceptualised the reservation issue likely to transform into the present day mess and initiated necessary remedial measures the violent agitation could have been averted, MUSU also took grim note of DESAM blaming MUSU's alleged inefficiency for the present crisis.

Affirming that MUSU is committed to upholding interest of the varsity's student community and overall development of the University, a MUSU statement issued by its general secretary Ananda Chongtham opined that DESAM's interpretation of the situation vividly reflects hastiness of the student body to jumping into conclusion without any justifiable ground.

MUSU also reminded that among others it had never shrugged off from its responsibility to apprise MU authorities on development matters such as recruitment exercise for filling up of vacant post of teachers.

As MUSU considers that any issue of the varsity is an internal matter the same needs to be solved internally the same sentiment should be respected by all concerned rather than issue statements to the media prematurely that could only undermine existing of the University, Ananda maintained.
