Imphal, May 19 2010: Prayers for the peace of souls for the two victims of May 6, Moa gate stand-off were performed by the residents of Mao and Senapati district headquarters today suspending all works of the day.

A report from Mao received here said that the prayer ceremony at Mao was performed from 8 am till 2 pm.

Around 200 womenfolk of the area took part in the prayer held near the Mao Traffic Island.

During the prayer, movement of vehicles passing through the Mao Traffic Island was blocked.

Even the Army convoys were not allowed to pass through.

Most of the shops remained closed during the prayer, the report added.

Mention may be made that two youths namely Loshua Mao (200 son of Daikho Mao of Kalinamai village and Chakho Mao (20) son of Neli of same village with the former were killed and several others injured in the May 6 stand-off between a mob and police and security personnel deploying at Mao gate.

The same prayer was also performed at Senapati district headquarters.

Around 300 womenfolk participated performed the prayer headed father of a church.

The prayer will be continued till May 30, the report added.

Due to the prayer ceremony, passenger services from Imphal to Mao were also suspended.
