Imphal, January 09: The Election Committee meeting of the MPP which was underway at the Babupara residence of Dr Nimaichand Luwang had to be called off abruptly today after a large number of people from Nambol gathered outside the quarters and demanding that the party's ticket should be given to Maibam Bijoykumar for the coming election.

Significantly the demand of the people came just a day after Th Chaoba was admitted into the fold of the party.

Chaoba is also from Nambol Assembly Constituency.

The Election Committee of the MPP was holding the meeting to select the candidates for the first phase of the polling scheduled on February 8.The MPP had earlier announced the names of six candidates for Thoubal district.

Even as the meeting was underway under closed doors, a large number of people from Nambol Assembly Constituency who had extended their support to M Bijoykumar arrived at the meeting venue today at about 2.30 pm and demanded that the party's ticket should be given to workers who have dedicated a better part of their lives for the MPP.

The people held placards and festoons announcing their support to Bijoykumar.

A sit-in-protest was also held outside the quarters of Dr Nimaichand Luwang.

Some of the people taking part in the dharna said that Bijoykumar has been working for the MPP for a long time and to contest the upcoming election he had done a lot for Nambol AC.

During a political conference held at Nambol, the president of the MPP himself had announced that the party's ticket for Nambol would be given to Bijoykumar, they claimed.

Any move to give the ticket to a new comer, just because he has money will be opposed to the end, they said.

The dharna was also held outside the office of the MPP and the protestors raised slogans demanding that the party's ticket should be given to Bijoykumar just as the president of the MPP, Dr L Chandramani came out from the office.
