Telemedicine to be introduced at JN

Imphal, June 29: The State Government under funding from the North East Council is going to introduce telemedicine facilities at the JN Hospital, Porompat within this year.

However the scheme is awaiting approval of NEC, according to Principal Secretary Health, CR Chhibber.

He said the Health Dept has submitted a proposal to the NEC on the matter.The facility will enable the surgeons provide better treatment by consulting medical experts of major medical institutions through telephone and Internet.

AIMS, Delhi, Appollo Hospital Mumbai and other major hospitals have been linked up.

Raikhan Chhibber, Health Commissioner said the Health Dept has established lint up with the Dept of Space, GoI.

The NEC will bear the total cost of the project to be installed at JN Hospital while the State Government contributes the land.

Raikhan further said the Union Ministry of Health has given the nod to the setting up of a 100 bedded extension of the JN Hosital for HIV/AIDS patients.

The cost of the new extension to be constructed under the Non-lapsable Central Pool of Resources will be Rs 80 lakhs.
