PM, UCM, political leaders to hold talks today

Imphal, September 26: The Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, senior central leaders, officials will hold talks with the Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi, representatives of various political parties and leaders of United Committee, Manipur led by Sapamcha Jadumani, President on various issues related to security on national highways.

The joint delegation will also submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister.

Representatives of Nagaland government will also attend the meeting.

UCM President in charge Sarojini speaking to the media today said the talks are expected anytime.

The PM and other central leaders were quite busy with the Swami Narayan temple episode in which 32 pilgrims were shot dead by two terrorists.

The boycott of Nagaland will not be called off until and unless the assurances of the central government are implemented into action she said.

Civil disobedience movement announced by UCM will also be intensified if there is no proper actions to improve the condition of NH 53 and ensure protection of all those who travel on the highway she added.

She appealed to all not to trouble those who are repairing the national highway no 53.Even movements on National highway no 53 may be completely stopped she said.

The Secy in charge said the centre has failed to safeguard the lives of the people of Manipur.

The centre sanctions crores of rupees to make roads but it is not ready to improve the condition of national highway no 53.There is just another 100 km long stretch which has to be repaired.

The movement should not be construed as a movement against the people of Nagaland UCM clarified.

The people of Manipur cannot tolerate the extortion, harassment on the national highways it was further clarified.

The truce between the government of India and NSCN(IM) affects Manipur strongly it was pointed out.

The NSCN (IM) cadres are also allowed to move freely carrying arms and what do well armed people do to harmless passengers UCM questioned.

The passengers are looted and the NSCN(lM) is looting the people of Manipur it charged.

The people of Manipur suffer tremendously due to the steps taken by NSCN(IM) it observed as the prices of all the goods that come from the rest of India increase manifold due to the heavy extortion.

The government of India has turned Nelson's Eye to the whole problem.

The looting, harassment and torture of innocent people tantamounts to violation of the ground rules as it is clearly laid own in Clause that the NSCN (IM) cadres should not loot money and harass people without any reason.

The NSCN has been given the license to kill, loot and torture the people of Manipur UCM charged.

A meeting will be organized by UCM on September 29 at 10 am at the UCM office to discuss the matter.
