Imphal, March 22: The Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur feels that Dr Moirangthem Nara Singh, Minister Arts and Culture, Sericulture who will be contesting in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency has a good chance of winning in the ensuing 14th Lok Sabha elections.

P Parijat Minister, FCS who is the Chairman of the Election Campaign Committee, Manipur State Council, CPI today said the people of Manipur wants a good representative who is young and can freely adjust with all sections of the society.

An articulate person who can knock at the doors of the Prime Minister, the Home Minister and others whenever necessary in the interest of Manipur is the need of the hour.

Parijat said Dr Nara fits it all.

Though the CPI is a constituent of the Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government, an agreement has been reached with the Congress to go for a friendly contest.

Certain code of conduct will be laid to restrain the workers from saying whatever they want.

The government will not be affected by the contest he clarified.

Governance is something else and elections something else he elaborated.

All political parties have their own agenda and the CPI wants to fight the elections he said.

The Left parties in the state, CPM and Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) have decided to support the CPI.

As for the Outer Manipur PC the CPI will not put up any candidate and support the Congress.

In Thoubal district except Thoubal, Wangkhem and Lilong all eight other constituencies are in the Outer PC.

The CPI is strong in all the eight constituencies, Parijat said.

If the Congress does not put up any candidate the CPI will review to whom the support has to be extended.

The RSP may also put up a candidate in the Outer PC so the CPI may decide to support it as it is supporting the CPI for the Inner Manipur PC seat.

The two MSCP, MLAs, Y Erabot and Vivekraj Wangkhem have not yet decided whom to support, Dr Nara or the Congress candidate Dr T Meinya, Minister, Higher Education.

Both MLAs are in the ruling front.

Dr Nara won as a CPI candidate from Wangjing Tentha, which is in the Outer Manipur PC.

In Thoubal district there is a strong support for Dr Nara as the people of the eight Assembly segments are not able to fight for the Outer Manipur PC as it is reserved for Scheduled Tribe.

They are dreaming to have an MP from Thoubal district.

The support is absolute Parijat said.

In 1967 Moirangthem Meghachandra and in 1980 Ngangom Mohendra won as CPI candidates for Inner Manipur PC, Parijat reminded.

The Campaign Committee headed by Parijat with senior member Sotinkumar as Secretary with 25 members is working hard to ensure Dr Nara's success.

Four non CPI members may be co-opted to strengthen the campaign Parijat said.

The election campaign will be different and not showy, Parijat explained.

AB Bardhan, General Secretary of the CPI will be coming to Manipur from March 30 to April 1.The campaign will kick off on March 31 itself.

The nomination paper will be filed on March 31 morning before noon.

Bardhan will also be present.

To seek support from the people of Bishenpur district where there are six Assembly segments the formal campaign will start at Moirang INA complex around 2.30 pm.

Later the same day at 4 pm at Thoubal, campaign will also be started.

All those who support the CPI will be asked to donate whatever they can, even if it is Re 1 Parijat said.

The CPI wants the people to choose a man whom they can rely on and whom they can choose.

Wrong means will not be used to seek support he added.

Area election committees will be formed for every Assembly segments.
