Imphal, January 22: In continuing election related violence, unidentified gunmen lobbed a grenade at the residence of FPM candidate from Wangkhei Assembly constituency Anoubam Rajen Sharma at Chingmeirong today at about 7.05 pm injuring a party worker in the explosion.

The incident took place while around fifty party workers were at the residence of the candidate.

A party worker who was heading home from the residence of the candidate was injured in the bomb explosion.

He suffered splinter injuries and has been admitted to JN hospital.

When some party workers rushed out, three youths who were standing near the gate of the candidate opened fire in the air and asked them to go back if they don�t want to get her.

However two workers gave chase forcing the gunmen to escape towards Nagaram opening around five rounds of fire.

Rajen was not at the home at the time of the incident.

Later speaking to newsmen Rajen said the involvement of his political rivals in today�s incident cannot be written off.

He had earlier contested the elections as a candidate of FPM twice.

His rivals may be targeting him now as his prospects of winning the election has soared.

Rajen also said he had not asked for security cover from the government as he has no enmity with anyone.
