Mani bags Outer by handsome margin

Imphal, May 19: Independent candidate Mani Charenamei has scripted a sort of a history by becoming the first independent candidate to ever win the Outer Parliamentary seat in Manipur for which counting was held today.

Mani romped home by a comfortable margin of 81,083 votes besting his nearest rival Loli Adanee of the BJP.

Mani secured a total of 2,28,422 votes while Adanee mustered 1,47,379 votes.

Even though the victory of Mani has been emphatic, the certificate is yet to be officially issued to him as reports from the AROs of some far flung places like Jiribam are yet to reach the office of the Returning Officer at Imphal till today.

The certificate is likely to be issued by tomorrow.

In all there were six candidates in the fray.

Ex-MP Holkhomang Haokip of the NCP came in third with a tally of 1,07,161 while MPP candidate and former MP Kim Gangte Kipgen managed 77,022 votes.

JD (U) candidate Rosangzuala secured 37,440 while AITC candidate Morung Makunga managed to tally 20,115 votes.

Mani Charenamei came out tops in ten Assembly segments securing the highest votes in Chandel (20,910), Phungyar (8,188), Ukhrul (15,081), Chingai (21,324), Karong (32,341), Mao (23,520), Tadubi (16,342), Tamei (21,162), Nungba (14,247) and Tamenglong (18,361).Charenamei secured the least vote in Thanlon where he managed only 20 votes.

Second placed Loli Adanee came out tops in four Assembly segments.

He secured the highest votes in Jiribam (3220), Thanlon (14,172), Churachandpur (20,970) and Singhat (13,920).Adanee secured the least vote in Tipaimukh (251).Surprisingly Mao, which was considered to be the stronghold of Adanee went to Charenamei who scored 23,520 votes to Adanee's 20,651 votes.

NCP candidate Holkhomang Haokip who came in third topped in eight Assembly segments.

The ACs are Wangjing Tentha (5002), Khangabok (12001), Wabagai (7056), Hiyanglam (2984), Sugnu (2139), Tengnoupal (14,760), Saikul (10980) and Saikot (13,577).Third placed Kim Gangte secured the highest number of votes in four Assembly segments with Heirok (4170), Kakching (1459), Tipaimukh (12694) and Henglep (9175).JD (U) candidate Rosangzuala belied expectations to come in at the fourth place with 37,440 votes.

He secured the highest number of votes in two Assembly segments with Kangpokpi (11949) and Saitu (12193).Morung Makunga of the AITC could not top in any of the Assembly segments and could muster a total of 20,115 votes.
