Imphal, March 13: Ending speculation of differences between the ruling partners regarding candidature for the two parliamentary seats in the forth- coming Lok Sabha elections Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (I) president O Ibobi Singh said as the Congress party commands overwhelming majority in the SPF Government there is no question of surrendering the seat.

As Congress MLAs far out number those of the ruling partner the party will field candidates in both the Outer and Inner Manipur parliamentary seats, asserted Ibobi who is also the Chief Minister while speaking in a party session today at the Congress Bhavan.

Those present in the session included presidents of district level and frontal organizations as well as unsuccessful candidates in the last assembly polls besides Rajya Sabha MP Rishang Keishing.

Contending that surrendering any seat to other political party would lead to misconception of decline in strength of the party Ibobi said adding that as the MSCP MLAs are with the Congress led SPF Government all out efforts should be made by the party workers to ensure success of Congress candidates.

Urging the party workers for maximum effort in electing the party candidates, the MPCC president highlighted that defeat of party nominee would lead to lack of respect by the Centre and result in discomfiture regarding governance.

Informing that ruling partner CPI had asked the Congress party to support its (CPI) nominee as consensus candidate in the Inner parliamentary constituency Ibobi said CPI leaders had also intimated the matter to AICC leaders.

Similarly, the Sharad Pawar led NCP that recently decided to align with the Congress party at the national level had also urged the State unit to support the latter's nominee as consensus candidate for the outer seat, informed the Chief Minister.

However, as the CPI had already affirmed to field its nominee for the Inner seat there will be friendly fight in the Inner while in the Outer the question of supporting NCP candidate is still crucial due to prevailing political situation in Manipur and lack of understanding between the two parties.

Even though list of Congress candidates for the two parliamentary seats are yet to be finalized the congregation approved Rishang Keishing as chairman of the party's election committee with O Ibobi Singh as chairman of the manifesto committee.

Significantly among those tentatively announced by the MPCC president as members of the two committees names of former Rajya Sabha MP W Angou, Youth Congress president Tilotama Devi and professor Mohendro who had applied to contest election on party tickets were included.

Inclusion of ticket aspirants as members of the two committees can be assumed as they are out of reckoning for contesting the polls as party nominees, mooted some party workers.
