Imphal, October 12: The chief minister Okram Ibobi today expressed regret for clamping curfew suddenly today morning at 9 am.

The curfew had to be imposed to protect and safeguard public properties Ibobi clarified.

The government has no qualms over the reported move to organize sit in protest.

Reminding the people of the violence that occurred during the UCM's earlier protests the Chief Minister said without naming UCM that some broke vehicles belonging to some community.

Vehicles carrying newspapers have been stopped and newspapers thrown into the river which smacks of communal overtone.

People with criminal back ground, vested political interests may disturb the normal wake of life.

For these reasons the decision for imposing curfew was taken.

The organizers should be careful about such elements the Chief Minister warned.

We can protect our territorial integrity only when the people of the hills and the plain trust each other and live harmoniously, in such case no one can break up Manipur he said.

The Secular progressive front (SPF) government was formed after the elections held after the 18 June, 01 incident he said.

The ministers and the MLAs have the same desire and will to safeguard Manipur's territory the Chief Minister pointed out.

The government will not allow organization of any meetings or take out procession rallies which threaten Manipur's integrity the Chief Minister said.

The SPF government will firmly deal with all those who are trying to destabilize the state he said.

All the 13 NSCN (IM) members who came to attend the October 8 meeting at Tamenglong were arrested.

The meeting at Senapati on September 11 was also stopped.

The SPF government is firm in its will riot to allow any meeting or rallies against the state's interests he said.

He appealed to all the people to help the government in safeguarding the territorial integrity of the state.

He further appealed to all not to spread rumors and to restore normalcy.

The Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee who will be visiting the state along with Nagaland on October 29 should be urged to announce to protect Manipur's territory.

Let us welcome the visiting Prime Minister and urge him to assist the state in developing it he said.
