Imphal, May 12: With the State electorates having exercised their franchise amid ban and boycott calls, the fate of four serious contenders in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency would be known tomorrow for which counting of votes is scheduled to begin at four district headquarters.

if everything goes as planned tomorrow a clear picture of who will be the new MP will become crystal clear by late afternoon tomorrow as the counting is scheduled to begin from 8 am in 32 Assembly Constituencies that have been clubbed in the Inner seat.

The break-up of Assembly Constituencies are 13 in Imphal West district, 11 in Imphal East, three in Thoubal and six in Bishnupur district.

Counting of seven ACs of Thoubal district and one in Jiribam sub-division of Imphal East district included in the Outer Parliamentary Constituency along with the remaining Constituencies of the Outer seat would be taken up on May 19.Among the hot contenders for the Inner seat are former MP Th Chaoba of the BJP, Dr M nara of the CPI, Dr T Meinya of the Indian national Congress and Dr L Chandramani of the Federal party of manipur.

Out of six contestants in the fray two independent candidates are considered to be non-serious.

Security measures have been tightened at all the counting centres at the four district headquarters with certain restrictions on vehicular traffic and access of authorised persons to counting complexes coming into effect from today evening and early morning of tomorrow.

To prevent any major election related incident, Thoubal DC has imposed liquor prohibition in and around the counting centre at the Thoubal district DC complex.

The declaration is in addition to Manipur already being declared a dry State since some years back.

Mention may be made that an underground outfit had given a poll boycott call while some others had restricted election activities of certain parties and their candidates.

allegations were also rife regarding cases of proxy voting even though the number of voter turnout were reportedly negligible at most polling stations with those daring enough to cast votes resorting to rampant proxy voting for their favoured candidate.

nevertheless the official voter turnout was recorded at 55 percent for the Inner seat for which polling was held on april 26 while repoll were ordered for three polling centres at mayang Imphal, Sagolband and Kumbi Assembly segments.
