Imphal, December 10: With the backing of the Yaiskul BJP Mandal and other well-wishers, RK Dorendra who is one of the leaders of the Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly is likely to resign from BJP within the next couple of days and join the Congress party.

The new development has come about following a joint meeting of the Yaiskul BJP Mandal and other well-wishers at the Yaiskul residence of the BJP Legislature party leader and former Chief Minister today.

The meeting discussed the prevailing political situation and the members urged Dorendra to resign from the BJP.

The meeting also advised him to contest the forthcoming 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly election as a candidate of the ruling Congress party from Yaiskul Assembly Constituency.

Meanwhile, Yaiskul BJP Mandal president O Iboyaima and Mahila Morcha president L Maipakpi have resigned from their respective posts.

When contacted, RK Dorendra informed The Sangai Express that he has taken the decision of resigning from BJP to respect the wishes expressed by the people of his Constituency.

Though the date for tendering the resignation has not yet been decided, it might be done so on one of the auspicious days within the next two-three days, he added.

While disclosing that he had received positive response from AICC to join Congress party, Dorendra further said that he would go to Delhi to meet the AICC leaders soon after resigning from BJP.

It may be noted here that some of the MPCC leaders have opposed his joining the Congress party.
