Church elders, NGOs to pray for release
German national completes 16 days in KLA custody, no rescue ops in sight

Imphal, April 07: With the KLA showing no signs of releasing Heinrich Wolfgang from its custody and with the German national completing 16 days in captivity, Church leaders and the All Manipur Christian Organization (AMCO) has convened a joint meeting of all the heads of Christian denominations and leaders of NGOs to discuss the matter tomorrow at Khuman Lampak Youth Hostel at 11 am.

Speaking to The Sangai Express, a reliable source said that the meeting will not only pray for the safe release of Wolfgang but will also discuss the strategies that may be taken up to secure his release.

Negotiations were also held today to seek the release of the German national but as before no tangible results could be achieved.

When The Sangai Express contacted DGP S Bimalchandra, the police officer said that there is as yet no plan to launch a rescue operation as numerous NGOs have appealed against any such move as it would expose the German national to peril and danger.

The Government too has not come out with any new strategy to secure the release of the abducted man.

Heinrich Wolfgang who was abducted on March 23 from near Maphou Dam by KLA activists suffered from a bout of diarrhoea but has recovered.

Meanwhile a representative from Wolfgang's organization, Evangelishcher Entwick Lungs Dienst, F Muller arrived at the State capital yesterday.

Mention may be made here that the KLA while speaking to the press had stated that Wolfgang would be released within six days time.

That period expired a few days back.

On the other hand, Thoubal District Non-Governmental Organizations' Development Forum (TDNGODF), Thoubal will be organizing a sit-in-protest demanding safe release of Wolfgang immediately on April 9 at Thoubal Athokpam near the DC office.

Meanwhile, Zeliangrong Union and Zeliangrong Youth Front, in a joint press, appeal, have urged KLA, which has been keeping the German National under their captivity since March 23 to release Wolfgang immediately in the interest of the people of the State who are yet to enjoy the fruit of development.

Manipur University Students' Union, Heingang United Clubs' Organization (HUCO) and Okshu Youth Social Welfare Club have also demanded the safe and unconditional release of Wolfgang on humanitarian ground.
