Imphal, September 04: Launching a long term plan in weight-lifting for the Common Wealth Games to be hosted by India at New Delhi in 2010, the Indian Weight Lifting Federation has announced the names of 32 men weight lifters and 28 women weight lifters to undergo a long term camp from October 1, 2008 to October 31, 2010.Interestingly L Monika Devi is not amongst those named in the 28 women lifters list.

The storm over the last minute exclusion of L Monika from the Beijing squad on doping charges, which were later withdrawn by Sports Authority of India and Indian Olympic Association, is yet to blow over with many still demanding an unconditional apology for the alleged discrimination.

However nine girls from Manipur but representing other States and institutions have been named to undergo the strenuous two year camp.

The women from Manipur who have been named in the list are, A Sandhyarani Devi (Police), Sunibala Devi (Assam), G Laxmi (Karnataka), W Nandini Devi (Police), H Poireinganbi Chanu (Jharkhand), K Romi Devi (Delhi), A Janeshori Devi (Karnataka), Nansita Devi (Haryana) and Sumati Devi (Delhi).

Weight lifting coach of SAI, Manipur A Ranjan has also been appointed as the Programme Officer of the said camp.

The list will be whittled down to 20 men lifters and 16 women lifters in the last six months of the two years camp.

The camp will hold at different places including abroad.

In India the squad will train for 693 days with 50 days marked as holidays and the venues include Pune, SAI Bangalore while some other options have also been named.

The optional venues include Vizag, Manipur and Hyderabad.

There will be 10 coaches for the entire period of the camp including two women coaches, according to a circulation issued by the Indian Weight Lifting Federation.

The Coaching abroad include three for 28 lifters, five coaches and two officials; six weeks camp/competition in Australia (January 2009) for 36 lifters, six coaches and two officials; SAI coaching/training/competition with Pakistan/Sri Lanka/ Bangladesh/Nepal (January 10) and Bilateral training/competition with Indonesia/ Thailand (April 10). Other activities include two regional championships (SAF and Asian), one international championship (Commonwealth) and two educational seminars with foreign faculty.

It is not yet known why L Monika Devi has not been named in the squad to undergo the two year long camp even though SAI had earlier withdrawn the doping charges against her.

At the moment, former Chief Election Commissioner of India Krishnamurthy has been appointed to probe the issue and to come out with a finding soon.

The report of the Krishnamurthy investigation is yet to be tabled and the Co-ordinating Committee Against the Conspiracy to Exclude Monika from Beijing Olympics by the Government of India has been demanding that the probe report be submitted soon.

State Youth Affairs and Sports Minister N Biren had yesterday (September 3) assured that he would do his best to get an answer and assured that something will come out within three days time from September 3. Earlier, a public meeting held at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex had decided to boycott all National and international sports meet until justice is delivered and weeks camp at Hungary (November 2008) apologies tendered.
