Imphal, February 02: The Congress-led Secular Progressive Front Government came in under severe criticisms from the National President of Bharatiya Janata Party Rajnath Singh who dismissed the SPF tenure as a misrule and failure on all fronts.

Addressing media persons at the partys State unit office soon after his arrival to the State capital today to canvas support for BJP candidates in the ensuing State Legislative Assembly elections, Rajnath said the law and order during the SPF Governments five year rule has gone to the dogs.

People are suffering economically and hence this Government should go.

Adding more punch to his tirade against the State and Central Governments, where Congress is the majority, the BJP chief lambasted the Congress for ignoring the plight of the masses through its persistent discriminatory policy that had only contributed to the growing sense of alienation amongst the people of the North East region for the last 50 years.

They (Congress) have also failed to bring about communal harmony amongst the people of Manipur, he charged while slamming the UPA government in the centre of failure to deliver justice to the people in every aspect.

Prices of commodities are skyrocketing.

Inflation rate is high and the prices jumped to 35 percent.

The government has failed to stock foods in the godowns unlike the overflowing of such foodstuffs during the BJP led NDA tenure, Rajnath maintained.

Inspite of keeping under wrap prospect of 14 BJP nominees fielded to contest elections to the 9th assembly polls, Rajnath reposed faith on BJP candidates and declared that his party is open to striking coalition with any parties with the exception of Congress and CPI in forming the next government.

Highlighting BJPs vision on Manipur he said BJP considers Manipur close to its heart.

The party is very keen to enhance and tap economic potential of the north eastern region in general and Manipur in particular.

BJPs main thrust towards the people of the region is to guarantee equal share in all developmental aspects like in the rest of the country.

The sense of alienation mingling in the minds of the people would be removed, he said while affirming that territorial integrity of the state must be secure and any confusion and issues on this regard and others prevailing in the state should be resolved through talks and negotiation.

On the simmering issue of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act the party President observed that the Jeevan Reddy committees report should be debated on the floor of Parliament and more humane laws should replace any provisions that are draconian.

Nevertheless BJP would extend all possible efforts to repeal the act as demanded by the people of Manipur.

Commenting on the insurgency problem besetting in the state he said, BJP doesnt feel insurgency in Manipur as a law and order problem and the issue should be resolved amicably through dialogues.

Sincere efforts should be made by the centre to resolve the grave law and order problems in the region, Rajnath said one the first of his two day visit to the state.

After addressing three election meetings of party candidates tomorrow Rajnath would leave Imphal.
