Imphal, April 30: Going hammer and tongs against the political parties including the Congress in connection with the recently held Lok Sabha elections, the Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate in the Inner seat Dr M Nara Singh has accused all the political parties of resorting to unfair means to woo the voters.

Addressing news-persons at Irabot Bhavan today, Dr Nara said categorically that these political parties threw all the essence of Parliamentary democracy to the wind during the April 26 polls.

Therefore there is no ground to say that the election went off freely and fairly, he maintained.

On the other hand, following the decrees issued by some organizations against casting votes, many genuine voters could not exercise their rights fearing unwanted consequences, expressed the CPI candidate who is also the Sericulture, Art and Culture Minister in the SPF coalition Government.

Nara regretted that the Parliamentary election in Manipur has been reduced to a farce due to bans imposed on election related activities besides the unethical practices adopted by the political parties and their candidates.

Regretting that the 2004 elections in Manipur will go down in history as the dirtiest, Dr Nara called upon the people to eradicate all the ills eroding the democratic process before the evil system gets rooted in the society.

The CPI leader also informed that his party is keen to float a front exclusively for the political parties willing to dedicate themselves towards peace, prosperity, social justice and human rights protection.

Joining the address, CPI Control Commission chairman M Ibohal said an air of confusion clouded the election scenario in Manipur with the NSCN (IM), that had boycotted previous elections, deciding not to give any boycott call in the current elections.

CPI's State secretary B Sharma described the ban imposed on electioneering as unfortunate as the agendas and political pursuits of respective parties could not be conveyed to the public prior to the elections.
