Opinions sought on Kangla-Sha prototype

Imphal, February 28: Along with completion of the prototype of the two Kangla-Sha to be installed at the Uttra of Kangla Fort, the Kangla-Sha Construction Committee has sought the comments and suggestions of the people in this regard.

Addressing a press conference at Kangla Uttra today this afternoon, representatives of Kangla-Sha Construction Committee including Director of Art and Culture Kh Sorojini Devi, Joint Director K Sobita Devi, Superintendent of Archeology Department Bheigya, Assistant Archeologist Rupoban, retired Senior Architect of PWD L Mangi, Sculptor B Mohendro Sharma and Director of Mutua Museum Mutua Bahadur disclosed that each of the two models of the Kangla-Sha to be installed at Kangla Uttra would be 19.30 feet tall and 15.30 feet in length and 6 feet in breadth.

The estimated cost for construction of one model of the Kangla-Sha to weight 36.50 metric tonne is around Rs 8 lakhs, they said, adding that the foundation part of the work is almost finalised.

However, in order to find out the opinion of the people, Sculptor B Mohendro Sharma has brought out prototypes of the Kangla-Sha made of mud for public viewing, they informed, while seeking the comments and suggestions from the people in this regard.

The Committee members said that the comments and suggestions of the people would be taken into consideration before going ahead with the work on the construction and the installation of the same at Kangla-Uttra.

The prototypes of the two Kangla-Shas are modelled on the basis of the photographs published in books like �The Lost Kingdom� and �The Meitheis� of TS Hudson and it is learnt that four kinds of bricks would be required for the construction of Kangla-Shas from the remnants of Kangla-Sha found among the ruins of the Old Palace at Canchipur, they said.

The total estimated cost of four kinds of bricks to be required has also been worked out as Rs 50,000 and a brick farm has been engaged for making the required bricks, the Committee members said.

Responding to a question, the Committee members said that construction of the two Kangla-Shas might take around two years.

Nonetheless, the Committee would be making all out efforts for completion of the works at the earliest possible, they assured.
