"Until and unless we have dedicated and committed teachers who take to teaching as a mission in their lives, we cannot have a good educational systems" - Dr. Radhakrishna
The future generation of our society or nation is depending on our teachers. Many people seem to ignore the teachers and teaching job but the teachers play a very crucial role in building up of our nation and we need to respect and honor the teachers who render good services for our nation...
Teacher- According to Oxford Advanced Learner Dictionary, "Teacher is a person who teaches." The teacher needs to have sound knowledge to teach other, otherwise, he/she will be taught by the students or s/he'll miss lead the students.
As a teacher - he/she enjoys the respect and honor from the students, parents and other fellow citizens and as he/she enjoys the honor and respect - he/she also need to contribute the same for the students for our future betterment of our nation.
Need for a Teacher
To be a teacher, officially s/he needs to possess the required Degrees and Diploma. Besides, it needs the capability to teach and deal the students in a constructive way. A teacher with a bundle of Degrees and Diplomas alone may no be a good teacher without possessing the talent or capability to teach other. A good teacher possesses required Degrees, Diplomas and capability to teach the students.
Knowledge
Knowledge is one of the essential parts of a teacher. A teacher without adequate knowledge would be like a blind man leading the blind. Knowledge should be regularly updated to cop up the present situation of the world.
Imparting Knowledge
A teacher having adequate knowledge is futile without been able to impart the knowledge to the student. The ability to impart the knowledge to the student is equally important as having the knowledge within him. When he teaches, he should be able to hold the attention of all the students.
Teacher need to teach the students with confidence and convincingly. Then the students will be able to understand and convince what s/he teaches to them. To find out how much the students grasped through his teaching, a teacher should be able to read the faces and reactions of the students.
Expectation out of a Teacher
A teacher with right approach and positive attitude will understand the students and develop a rapport with the students. At every level, something more is expected of a teacher than merely going to the class and giving an adlib lectures.
He should observe, whatever is taught is being grasped or not. One way of testing, how much the students have grasps is to conduct regular examination.
The institutes or schools situated in rural areas lack guidance and counseling, for the students. Many of the students' parents in rural areas are ignorance about their children's future career due to their illiteracy. The teachers in such institutions should be a good mentor and counselor too.
Even in the schools and colleges in the city, where there is no career guide or counselor, all the teachers needs to be a good counselor and mentor for the students. Sometime teachers can be the best counselor or mentor for the students, as they know well about their students.
The teachers can encourage the students to get interested in some particular fields of study and it is sometime depend on teachers.
For instance, some students hate some particular subjects like, Mathematics, Science, History and so on because of their teachers' attitude. The role of a teacher and his influence to the students is very important for a student to hate or get interest in a particular subject.
There are some students who diverge their interest in some subjects due to their teachers' attitude. Teachers are expected to be more circumspective in diverting the interest of the students from their callous attitude towards the students.
A teacher should be a student's friend, guide, mentor and counselor. In antiquity, the relation between a teacher and the student was rather formal, rigid and often standoffish. But now a teacher should be more interactive, amicable and easy to approach. A good teacher is like a mother who disciplines and cares for her children.
The students often go an amicable teacher to solve their problems but hesitate and afraid to share the problems to a rigid teachers. Teachers know better about their students than any other counselor or career guide so they can observed or examines the students and gives the best solution and guidance to the students.
The stereotype of teaching in obsolete fashion needs to be altered. Let the students enjoy your teaching and help them to learn more their lessons with eagerness.
Let the students remember you with great gratitude and not with grudge through out their lives for your excellent teaching, good rapport, guidance and counseling and in return you may be contented with great satisfaction - for you have contributed something great for your students and nation.
Change the way of your obsolete method of teaching by developing a good rapport with your students and give a chance to the students to learn a new lesson from you more confidently and freely.
