No contacts with home. No way all lines of the whole exchange (hiyangthang)
engaged. Have to call my parents to talk about money without which --
no mess facility in hostel. no clearance--no appearance in exam .
---oh GOD what to do . mail system is also not working post office.
back to barbarism!

Now, it is not so bad as December'02
[Fri, 7 Mar 2003 16:24:42 +0530]
There is no point in blaming the God (if exists) and govt. One month ago, the line went (almost) dead,
never getting connected. As I have mentioned in my previous updates, I want to reaffirm that
I'm getting the connection whenver I try (in the night as well as day time).
For your information, I'm calling Thoudam village. As usual, you just need to try a little harder before you get the line.
But you will definitely get it.
Now the rates in day/night are same, so better try in the day time when the traffic will be very less.
Please don't mistake me as supporter of govt or whatever. I'm just telling the fact that they can't do much.
If you don't get the connection at all, I can even spend a few valuable rupees and try dialing your number from Bangalore.
Mail me the STD code and phone number to [email protected]. I can try only for first two or three persons only to
verify whether we are still facing the problem or not. If I get the connection, I can only convey to them that
you wanted to talk to them and you could not get the line.
I'm not trying to prove any point here. I only want to make you believe that you can get the line. Try a little harder.

Hope some heroes comes and rectify
[Thu, 27 Feb 2003 05:24:08 -0800]
To whom it may concern:
Patience has been one of my great personalities but this time
my patience has been defeated many a times by this ongoing problem
with the communication link-up. Since there is hardly the other
modern technologies by which I could contact my home in time
when needs demands or otherwise....I have to depend much on this
land line phones.and I don't understand what the hell is going
on. Its so disgusting the way its been going and at the same time
I hope some heroes come up to rectify or bring it to the normal. And
a big bang to those whoever is responsible for this outcome of
the problem. May they live not long.
always!!

Jiribam has grave communication problem
[Fri, 21 Feb 2003 23:25:15 -0800]
Dear e-pao,
Imagine a place, cut off from the rest of the world, telecom-wise, in an age when you talk about
internet, mobile comm., comm WLL all the possible new technolologies , JIRIBAM JIRIBAM one such place,
the concerned deptt ignorant of. No communication is possible from here or from outside
till date for the last three four months. It may not be wise to bring in the events as a result of
which the condition here is so. The present situation is very grave. Repeated requests from the
people has failed to entice the telephone deptt to take an early
and neccesary neccesary.
I appreciate the initiatives you have been taking to solve
the tele. problems of late. I sincerely do hope that you will
help the people of JIRIBAM in JIRIBAM to connect to the mainstream developed
Manipur.
yours Manipur ,

Govt has responsibility for people living outside Manipur too
[Wed, 19 Feb 2003 14:17:53 -0000]
To the Manipur Goverment
Try to do something about the problem happen in manipur about the telecome.
Don't always think about urself. You have many responsibility for people living inside or ouside the
Manipur. I am a student living ouside manipur we need to communicate with our
parents regularly but we can't do this because of telecome
problem. Such a problem may hurt unconsiderably in students &
others mainly in money consumming persons. Please try to understand
the problem faced by your child

I think it is back to normal
[Tue, 18 Feb 2003 22:27:29 -0800]
I didn't bother to read the complaints in this link for almost
a month, because the telephone lines to Manipur are back to normal.
I'm not saying that it is very good now. But it is as good as
was earlier before the recent problems. If you try in full-rate
time, you will at least get the line in two/three tries. Even
in the night, I have got the line many times recently. I call
from Bangalore to Thoubal and my elder brother calls from Etawah
(UP) to Thoubal; it is quite normal now.
I understand that the STD lines in other states have improved
hundred times. We cannot blame the government alone for our not
getting the betterment. Government cannot get back the stolen
STD cards. Please remember that BSNL is not fully govenment owned.
We tend to blame the government for everything when we cannot
blame ourselves, terrorists, students unions, etc. In fact legislature
members have to spend more money to buy us to cast the vote than
we pay back to them. I'm not saying that our government is doing
their best to solve our problems. I'm saying that we have our
part of the blame in many ways.
For example, we cannot blame the govt alone for the bad shape of the road (actually not roads,
but arrays of pot holes). The contractors in Manipur are corrupt.
To make more complicated, terrorists will also demand their share
from the contractors (don't ask me for details... I'm not guru
in this subject, but I'm sure of this). I don't know how far
it is true, but there was once a plan to tar the roads in Manipur
with funds from World Bank. If it was true, I don't know what
would have failed. But sure, the fund wouldn't effectively go
into the roads. Should we blame the government? Please... there
are only a handful of tax payers in Manipur. Even the wine shops
don't pay tax!! (Partly to blame the govt for not regulating
it). Govt does not get much income except from the central govt's
mercy. We cannot expect everything from Central govt. I understand
that there are states like Kashmir, which gets a lot from central
govt... and most of the ST in north-east too. But we cannot put
all 100% blame to the govt.
I know that I'm not helping you in any way. But I can at least
point out that govt is not the major problem and solution in
Manipur. Govt comes after people.

Open your mouth to the local Government
[Sun, 16 Feb 2003 04:39:47 -0800]
To all who might read this.
As we all know now there is a communication problem with Manipur
for a very long time. We are not allowed openly to point a finger to a specific direction
although we know that this might be a foolish action from a brainless
government of India in New Delhi or the local authorities in
Manipur. If India is the largest democracy of the world then for what
reason are they afraid to let people share their thoughts with
each other?
If the responsible group of people are not going to solve this
problem soon they can expect a lot of antipathy against the local
government in Manipur. I can give them just one advice be very open with your communication
if you guys don't have the financial resources, do please say
so, we can help. But do open your mouth.

For the people in manipur: do something now
[Mon, 3 Feb 2003 22:10:46 -0800]
Hi there e-pao group.
This is hoping that you will convey my messages to my loved and dear ones.
Right now I'm calcutta and to be far away without any
communication is just a torture. I, being, a student here face a lots problems which
we need to consult with our parents but it seems that everything is dead for me.
God knows what the hell "the government of manipur" is doing? I would be very thankful to the e-pao group
if they ask the government to take some initiative. We are all suffering here.
Just by God's grace we are being blessed gracefully.
This is for the people in manipur: do something now...
My dear brothers and sisters. At least have some considerations for the students who stays outside the state.
lets pray to intermit this plague
Thanks a lot to e-pao.
Always,
Naoba, Calcutta.
