SACSAS Progress Report 2008
- SAve Children SAve Society -
By Ajit Thokchom *
We are proud to announce that SACSAS has met the goal of opening five schools in five remote villages of Manipur. SACSAS stands for SAve Children SAve Society .
SACSAS Academy is a secular, not for profit organization dedicated to socio-economic change in Manipur. In pursuit of this goal, SACSAS focuses on basic education in the belief that education is a critical requisite for the change needed for growth, development, enrichment and more importantly sustenance of our society.
SACSAS believes that the quality of human resource and development of a society relates to the number of literate population living in it, so providing basic education to every child in the society is a must.
One of the main reasons why children of low income family stop going to school or do not go to school at all is because many of their parents do not send them to school for they want to use them to make money for their livelihood, or schools are far and there is no means of transportation to go to schools in the neighboring villages.

If the children do not have a habit of going to school right from the beginning they will not tell / urge their parents to send them to school. That is how they end up being illiterate. Generally the illiterate parents never feel the importance of getting their children quality education.
The primary objectives of this group are to provide quality education to underprivileged and downtrodden (low-income) children in Manipur, to increase parents awareness of importance of education and to nurture such small children the habit of going to school so that they will ask their parents to send them to school once they come out of SACSAS Academy.
The first unit of SACSAS Academy was opened on the 10th of May 2003 at Yaoshulakpa (Laishoi) village of Moirang, Manipur. We were overwhelmed at the response of the parents of the village.
The other four units are located at Maobam, Uyungmakhong, Loilamkot and New Dampi villages. At present this initiative is benefiting over 330 childrens. There are a total of 18 teachers.
SACSAS Academy believes in transparency in administration of funds raised through donations. SACSAS Academy is a zero overhead organization where we do not use any part of donations to cover administrative expenses. This means 100% of all donations go directly towards educating underprivileged children in Manipur.
It would have been impossible to get this far without the help of our executive members, volunteers, organizations that supported us and other individuals.
If you are between jobs, a student on vacation, a pensioner, a housewife or if your organization promotes or supports voluntary work you could look at helping SACSAS achieve the goal of getting every child in school and learning well.
Any kind of help would be highly appreciated. You can either help the teachers, guardians and the children at the school site or you can help raise fund or get funds from various organizations / institutions as inflow of continuous funds is the backbone of achieving the goals of SACSAS Academy. If you don't help who else will :-).
SACSAS is constantly looking out for prospective school locations in remote areas of Manipur. At the same time we are also constantly looking for funds to support additional schools, volunteers to help this initiative move forward and educate more children.
