New Delhi, 4th January: 8-years-old Indian Climate Activist Licypriya Kangujam named among Top 100 Child Prodigies in the World on recognition of her contributions on global climate movement. She was honoured with Global Child Prodigy Award 2020 on 3rd January 2020 in New Delhi by Lieutenant Governor of Pondicherry Kiran Bedi in an auspicious event chaired by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Kailash Satyarthi.
Licypriya raised her voice for immediate climate action to the world leaders at the age of 6 years. She is fighting to save their future by enacting a climate change law in India and other countries of the World. She also recently urged PM Modi to include climate change as compulsory subject in school curriculum and also students to plants minimum 10 tress every year to pass their final exam.
Climate Change Law is very important in the country to bring accountability in fighting Climate Change. These will benefits of communities, especially the poor and marginalized people.
Despite her tender age, she invent symbolic device called SUKIFU (Surivival Kit for the Future) to fight air pollution and also led thousands of people in hundreds of marches calling urgent action from world leaders in over 21 countries in last nearly 2 years of her activism. She also met and helps victims of various natural disasters like landslides, floods, earthquakes, etc. in various place across India and beyond.
She had also urged the world leaders along with Swedish climate activist Greta at the United Nations Climate Conference 2019 (COP25) in Madrid in Spain to fight the climate change with more concrete actions. She was greatly influenced by Greta Thunberg.
Licypriya even stood near the Parliament since February 2019 after she dropped out from school to draw the Prime Minister's attention towards climate change. "I urge him and all MPs to act on climate change now and save our future. The sea levels are increasing and the Earth is becoming hotter. They should act now," she had told ANI.

After receiving the Award, she told the media, "I am grateful to Global Child Prodigy Foundation for recognizing my efforts. I am fighting to save our planet and our future by tackling the climate change. The Politicians are not doing nearly enough, just token gestures. The ice caps are going to be huge disaster. It's my future, I feel like I should continue to fight for it. I dedicated this award to all climate strikers around the world."
"We will continue to give more pressure to our world leaders. Climate Change is something where they can't ignore. Otherwise, their own children will not forgive them. Australia Bushfire and Delhi Air Pollution is real example. What we want is not about today or tomorrow but what needs to be done now", she added.

UN Chief Antonio Guterres also recently praised Licypriya in his twitter for her commendable works on climate change stating that she is the reminders of world's obligations to the future generations. Hers is the generation for which we have to take urgent Climate Action.
The chorus against climate change got louder than ever in 2019, and the government took a slew of measures to mitigate its impact such as launching a national clean air programme, providing financial aid to states to save forests and Himalayan glaciers besides envisaging a national coastal mission to protect India's shorelines.
The year 2019 also saw not just environmentalists being critical of the government, but school children hitting the streets urging the authorities to be serious about saving the planet from climate change. From signing and circulating petitions to holding placards in protest across the country, children did it all to shake the conscience of the authorities to declare climate change a national emergency and expedite the process of reducing carbon emissions.

From 16-year-old Swedish girl Greta Thunberg to eight-year-old Licypriya Kangujam from north-east India, the passion to fight climate change united even the children, who took the global stage to urge leaders around the world to "act now". Indian government was yet to develop a roadmap to phase out fossil fuel subsidies that would consequently reduce the country's high dependence on coal.
Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi in her speech told that, "These 100 child prodigies from across the globe are diamonds in the making who only need to be fine tuned and nurtured further. They justifies and establish the theory of reincarnation. They are all future Nobel Laureates."
Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Kailash Styarthi stated that, "Such recognitions to young future leaders is humility, pride for everyone. They own the future. They deserve to recognize with Top 100 Amazing Children of the World."
Dr K. Abdul Ghani - Renowned Environmentalist quoted- "GCPA has taken up a unique initiative to honour children who have great talents and are extraordinary in their own way. This is a great step to support them and give them a global exposure to shine in their respective domains."
100 child prodigies from across the globe starting from World famous DJ Erica Armah Bra-Bulu Tandoh of Ghana to India's youngest climate activist Licypriya Kangujam received the awards. KIIT & KISS Founder and MP Achyuta Samanta, GCPA Co-Founder Prashant Pandey endorsed the event.
