Jiribam-Silchar first daily passenger train flagged off on May 27 2016 (at 4: 25 PM) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi

After the successful trials of freight train on the newly conversion BG line of Jribam, the first ever Jribam to Stinchar Broad Gauge Passenger train has been flag off today by the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi from Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex Polo Ground shillong by remote in presence of Suresh Pravakar, Minister of Railway at 4: 25 PM.

Meanwhile, In Jiribam, the ceremony of flagging off was also held in the august presence of Dr.Thokchom Meinya, Member of Parliament from Inner Manipur; Shri Thangso Baite, M.P of Outer Manipur; Shri Ajit Pandit, Chief Administrative Officer, N.F Railway; Shri Brajesh Dharmani, CFTM N.F Railway; Shri M. Lakshikumar, Transport Commissioner, Government of Manipur; Shri Ravindra Ram, Chief Engineer of N.F Railway; Shri Jeet Singh, Chief Signal and Telecom Engineer of N.F Railway; Shri Dr A Chinglenkhomba Meitei, Deputy Director Transport, Govt. of Manipur.

The Welcome address of the flag off ceremony at Jiribam was delivered by Shri Ajit Pandit, Chief Administrative Officer, N.F Railway. In his speech, he has mentioned that the Jiri- Tupul BG line will also be complete within two- three years. Thereafter addressing the huge public gathering Thokchom Meinya, M.P Inner Manipur, Shri Thangso Baite M.P of Outer Manipur seat and M. Lakshi Kumar, Transport Commissioner, Govt. of Manipur said that it was the historic and proud moments for the people of Manipur especially for Jiribam that the dreams of Peoples come to be real one. They also added that today we entered to the new era of Manipur and it will bring drastic change in case of transportation.

Thangso Baite in his speech added that this Railway project of Jiri to Tupul was initiated during the UPA Government under the leadership of Dr.Manmohan Singh the then Prime Minister of India whereas due to the change of Government in centre the present NDA government accomplished the project and included Manipur into the map of BG line for which he uttered his gratitude to the present Government
