Irom Sharmila released from judicial custody after JMIC, Imphal East discharged her from all charges :: 22 January 2015

Irom Sharmila was released from the security of JNIMS Hospital in Porompat, Imphal east District, in Imphal,on 22 January 2014. She walked free after nearly 14 years in jail for the second time but vowed to continue the hunger strike that landed her in prison for attempted suicide. Sharmila, 42, has been demanding the repeal of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 and has not taken food voluntarily since November 2000. Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act 1958 is an act which is enforced to curb insurgency movements in trouble torn parts of North East region of India

Irom Sharmila, after her release on 22 January 2014 in Porompat Imphal east District,in Imphal, India began her struggle at the heart of Imphal city in front of the Maharaj Bhagyachandra's statue at Ima Keithel. India's most famous prisoner of conscience has walked free after nearly 14 years in prison, but vowed to continue the hunger strike that landed her in prison for attempted suicide.
