Imphal, February 17, 2010:
Sports-persons of the state who brought laurel to the country as well as the State have yet again been overlooked as the Government of Manipur has failed to recognised their feats by denying them reservation in appointment inspite of repeated assurances.
Even as candidates, who appeared in the test for appointment of primary teachers in Government schools, are demanding that results be declared failing which agitations would be launched, the state has not reserved quotas for meritorious sportspersons during the same recruitment process.
Interestingly a case on this matter is still pending before the Gauhati High Court Imphal bench as six excellent sports persons of the state had filed a writ petition seeking to maintain five percent reservation in the recruitment of the primary teachers.
The government’s notification dated September 14, 2006, circulated for recruitment of 1423 primary teachers had no mention about the 5 percent reservation for meritorious sports persons in such appointment through there is a standing order to do so as per the office memorandum made on October 17, 1998. On December 15, 2006, an interim order was passed by the Gauhati High court directing the state not to fill up six posts of primary teachers and to show cause for its failure to comply with the 5 percent job quota, said advocate Y Nirmolchand Singh who is appearing for the petitioners.
Again the court yesterday also passed another order directing the government respondents to furnish information to the court for their failure to reserve such sports quota, the lawyer said.
