Governor Arvind Dave will award two police personnel with Police Medal for Gallantry and four Fire Department personnel with Fire Service Medal for Gallantry, Distinguished and Meritorious services on the occasion of the 55th Republic Day celebration tomorrow.
The Government of India has also decided to confer the Indian Police Medial, for meritorious service to LUt Khaute DIG (Hqs), Anish Dayal Singh, DIG (Range-1) and Kharka Bahadur Naik of 7 MR.The police personnel selected for the award are Inspector of Imphal East district police, Th Krishnatombi and Imphal West Assistant Sub-Inspector Muhammad Yusuf Ali.
The former is also a three time recipient of Gallantry award.
Firemen Surchandra Khaidem and Oken Tongbram will be honoured with the Fire Service Medal for Gallantry award while the Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service will be presented to Fireman Sanatomba Chirom.
For the Fire Service award in Meritorious Service category Fireman Ibohal Wangkheimayum has been selected.
Firemen Surchandra, Oken and Ibohal will receive the Gallantry and Meritorious awards for their exemplary endeavour in saving the lives of two MLAs when the Assembly Secretariat was burnt down by a mob during the June 18, 2001 agitation.
On the other hand.
Fireman Sanatomba will be honoured in recognition for his dedicated service in rescuing several persons stranded at the submerged houses at Lilong during the 2002 flood.
Upholding the spirit of the Republic Day celebration prison term of two persons sentenced to life would be relaxed by six months each.
The two are Nilmohan Mullick of Serou Part I and Thoidingjam Modhurjit of Uripok Achom Leikai.
The main function of the celebration will be held at the Kangla Fort from 8 am where Governor Arvind Dave will receive the salute from march past parade contingents of Civil Police, Ex-Servicemen, CRPF, IRB, Home Guard, Fire Service, Excise, NCC and various schools.
There will be around 40 march past contingents.
The march past will be led by Commanding Officer of 2nd Manipur Rifles Clay Khongsai as the parade commander while Nisit Kumar Ujjawal (IPS) will command the Parade Guard of Honour.
Erection of well decorated gates displaying targets and achievements of various departments have been completed and colourful flags hoisted along the parade route.
