Imphal, December 28:
The All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRSU) has temporarily withdrawn the 1000-hour Assam and North Bengal bandh to create an ambience for holding the tripartite talks with the State and the Central Governments, reports NNN.
The 1000 hours bandh was supposed to start from January 1 next.
Talking to newsmen in Guwahati on Friday, AKRSU president Biswajit Rai informed that the bandh was temporarily withdrawn following assurances of a tripartite meeting from the Assam Govt spokesman Himanta Biswa Sarma and the chief minister Tarun Gogoi.
The AKRSU is demanding the government inclusion of the community in the ST list and creation of a separate Kamatapur state involving five districts of West Bengal CoochBehar, Jalpaiguri, North and South Dinajpur and Darjeeling.
"We have withdrawn the bandh and we would see whether the government holds the tripartite talks over the issue of Kamatapur and ST demands of the Koch-Rajbongshi community within January.
However, if the government fails to hold the tripartite talk involving the centre, the state and AKRSU, we would step up the agitation again," said Rai.
The organization has already held a fast unto death programme demanding the government to fulfil its various demands.
The organization had also earlier called a 1000 hour bandh which was then withdrawn later.
Meanwhile, the AKRSU has said that the organization would play an impartial role in the forthcoming Panchayat Poll in the Koch Rajbongshi dominated areas of the state and said they only want to elect able and committed people in the forthcoming polls.
