India, Mauritius sign bilateral pacts

Imphal, April 25 2011:
India and Mauritius have signed a volume of agreements for bilateral cooperation and exchange in diverse fields such as higher education, science and technology, tourism, hospitality, trade and commerce and culture.
President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil who is currently on a four day official visit to Mauritius talked with Mauritius Prime Minister Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam at the latter's official residence Clarisse House this morning.
Later briefing media persons jointly, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam stated that the Indian President's visit to his country has elevated the bilateral relations between the two countries to a higher plane.
He asked the Indian President and the Indian business delegates to grab the investment opportunity available in his country and also to take up joint venture projects.
The Prime Minister also sought the attention of the Indian delegates about the feasibility of making Mauritius a business platform between Asia and Africa.

President Patil remarked that the countries have succeeded in expanding their areas of cooperation and friendship.
She also acknowledged Mauritius' support in crucial issues concerning India.
The President informed the media that the countries have agreed on enhancing bilateral cooperation and exchange between the two countries in such sectors as higher education, information technology, science and technology, tourism, hospitality and culture.
President Patil invited both the Mauritius President and the Prime Minister to visit India.
Earlier on the day, President Patil met the Mauritius President Sir Anerood Jugnauth and paid floral tributes to Mauritius' father of Nation Sir Seewoosagur at his memorial tomb.
In the afternoon, she called on Mauritius Chief Justice Yeung Kam John and Opposition leader Raymond Berenger at Royal Palm Hotel.
In the evening, Patil called on the Mauritius President and the two leaders discussed about exploring ways for closer cooperation in diverse fields like health, agriculture, rural development etc.
The two leaders also deliberated on issued like defence and security, terrorism as well as piracy.
They also agreed on introducing Ayurvedic methods of treatment in Mauritius.
In this connection, India agreed to host an Indo-Africa conference on Ayurvedic science.
