Imphal, March 30 2010:
The Manipur Zoological Garden located at Iroishemba now owns a rare Albino Sambar (locally known as white Shajal).
An adult female Sambar gave birth to the rare variety white coloured fawn in the night of March 23 .
According to Director of Manipur Zoological Garden S Dhananjoy such phenomenon of animals giving birth to young ones whose colours are totally different from their own is known as 'ghost of nature'.
|
Such complete variance in the colour of a young fawn is caused by the recessive genes found torpid in its biological parents.
There have been only 36/37 recorded cases of such unnatural birth in the world so far, Dhananjoy said.
He further informed that efforts would be made to enlarge zoological garden in addition to devising a policy under which people who donated animals to the zoo would be allowed to visit it without entry tickets.
