Imphal, July 02:
Though the Delimitation Commission of India had set its eyes on reorganizing the Assembly Constituencies of all the States in the country on the basis of the 2001 census, the Registrar General of India (Census) has rejected the population figure in some parts of the hill districts of Manipur, as the 2001 head count showed abnormal growth.
A fresh head count was earlier conducted in hill districts following the detection of the abnormal growth.
Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, a well placed source informed that the decision to reject the 2001 Census report for some parts of the hill districts was taken during a meeting held between officials of the Delimitation Commission of India and the RGI at New Delhi.
The decision to reject the 2001 Census report of some parts of the hills districts has been conveyed to the State Government, added the source.
The population count which has been rejected by the RGI (Census) include Paomata, Mao-Maram, and Purul sub-divisions of Senapati district, informed the source.
This specific information was intimated to Chief Minister O Ibobi a few months back.
A fresh head count may be held for the named sub-divisions and the time for the same may be fixed by the RGI (Census) soon.
On the other hand, to check and identify bogus voters, the Election Commission of India has issued strict instructions not to give voting rights to anyone without their photo identity cards from the next election, further said the source.
Photo identity cards will be issued to all the voters after an intensive revision of the electoral rolls is conducted, informed the source further.
The ECI has issued strict instructions towards this end to the State Election office.
The names and other relevant information of the voters along with a photograph will be carried on the photo identity cards.
