Imphal, November 12 2010: A empty oil tanker undergoing welding works exploded today at a workshop at Patsoi part-1 today injuring three persons.

The incident took pace around 8 am at Nilo Workshop near the Nilo Oil Pump, Patsoi part-1.The oil tanker (MN01-5789) exploded while a mechanic of the workshop was welding a leaking portion of the oil tanker.

Windshield of another truck parked nearby the oil tanker was also shattered and the roofing sheets of the garage was also damaged.

Three persons including the driver of the oil tanker identified as Thokchom Ibomcha (30) of Yairipok, his handyman Chingtham Tomba (21) and mechanic Athang (25) of Nungba sustained injuries from the impact of the blast.

They have been admitted at Shija Hospital.

Driver Ibomcha who received a severe injury in the right hand was operated upon while Tomba and Athang were discharged after medical treatment.
