MPP petitions President on rampant corruption, siphoning of public money in state

Seeking immediate intervention from her side, the Manipur People's Party today submitted a memorandum to the President of India on the issue of rampant corruption, mismanagement and siphoning of public money in implementing centre sponsored schemes in the state.
In the memorandum, MPP sought attention of the President in the present poor development status in Manipur despite releasing huge amount of money under various centrally sponsored welfare schemes.
It stated that Ministers, MLAs and bureaucrats under the present Secular Progressive Front government ruling in the state is responsible for the high corruption being carried out in the state.
The memorandum stated that BPL items provided by the centre for BPL and AAY card holders are supposed to be made available at the lowest rate fixed by the government from time to time.
A BPL card holder is entitled to get 35 kg of rice every month at the rate of Rs 8.32 per kg while AAY card holders are entitled to get the same amount at Rs 3.37 per kg.
As per the record maintained by the Directorate of CAF & PD all the total quantity of rice, sugar and other items were released and lifted by authorities for distribution.
However most of the items are sold out in the market at much higher rate and provide one 8 to 10 kg of rice to the beneficiaries at the rate of Rs 15 per kg that too five or six times in a year which can be assess by verifying collecting only a few cards of the beneficiaries from any part of the state.
It also mentioned that officials are misappropriating the almost all of the funds meant for Sarva Shikshya Abhiyan which are released by the centre to provide free education, free uniforms, text books and mid day meal.
The condition is worse in case of SCERT and Adult Education which has totally failed in the state due to the corrupt nature of high ranking officials and concern authorities.
Moreover the MGNREGS which provides 100 days' work to every job card holders has become a money making machines of the Pradhans, Zilla Parishad members and members who not only maintained most of the working days only in paper but also gives lesser amount of wages to the job card holders.
Expressing serious concern on the matter, MPP sought intervention from the President and hand over the matter to CBI for inspection.
It also mentioned that the PMGSY which aims in improving rural connectivity by improving and renovating inter village roads is also in total disarray state in Manipur with no proper work being executed as recorded in official documents.
It also sought attention of the President in the present Law and Order situation of the state where Bomb threats, extortion, kidnapping for ransom and killing innocent people has become daily occurrence which adds a constant fear in the mind of the people of the state for their lives' security.
