Describing HIV/AIDS menace as not only a social problem but social disease Medical Minister L Nandakumar called upon the general public to contribute their mite in ensuring HIV/AIDS free society.
He was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural of the three day workshop on 'HIV/AIDS Education to Curriculum Development' being jointly organised by All India Federation of Teacher Education and All Manipur School Teachers' Association at State Guest House here today.
Speaking as at the occasion, the Minister the HIV/AIDS problem need concerted effort from cross section of the society rather than leave the responsibility to the medical personnel and NGOs.
Strongly advocating inclusion of the HIV/AIDS matter in the school curricula at the earliest Nandakumar stressed on need for urgent redressal of the problem through making the children aware of implication of the dreaded disease so as to save the future generation.
Favouring sex education at schools from the primary level itself he only adequate awareness and imbibing sense of responsibility could prevent the youths from falling prey to the disease while urging the public to support HIV/AIDS prevention endeavours being undertaken by the Govt.In his presidential address, AIFTA vice president B Mohan Reddy stressed on indispensability of equipping the teachers with adequate knowledge on HIV/AIDS as they are equally responsible in moulding the children from early childhood especially in the context of Manipur ranking high among the HIV/AIDS infected States in the country.
He also reflected on necessity of introducing sex education in schools besides free of HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns at a war footing.
AIFTA general secretary Acharya Dharad Vijay Pandit, deputy general secretary Romesh Joshi and AMSTA general secretary also attended the first day's session.
