Shortage of drugs to prevent Opportunistic Infection (OI) at JN Hospital, Porompat has hit hard many HIV positive patients.
In order to prevent Opportunistic Infections by HIV positive patients, the said OI drugs are essential.
But the same has not been available for the last half a month at JN Hospital, informed ART in-charge of the hospital Dr Priyokumar.
The OI drugs which are not available or are running out of stock at the hospital are said to be Fluconazole, Itraconozole and Fungizone, all nescessary for prevention of Opportunistic Infections by HIV positive patients.
It is said Fluconazole and Itracomozole have not been available for the last half a month while the remaining stock of Fungizone running out of stock fast.
According to information received by the press, there are in all 500 patients which are receiving OI drugs from JN Hospital.
A HIV positive patient who is on OI drugs should not stop using the drugs once he/she started the medication.
Otherwise, the chances of getting Opportunistic Infections is very high.
It is said shortage of OI drugs at the hospital had already been brought to the notice of the authorities of the Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS) but so far there has been no response in this regard.
