The usually publicity shy, international aid agency, Medicins Sans Frontieres-Holland (MSF) yesterday enlighten media fraternity of the district on its work and facilities they have established to facilitate the needy.
The agency arrived in this conflict ridden, disease prone region of the state on October 2004 and since then they were provide basic health services to the people irrespective of bias in any form.
In September last year after signing an MoU with the State Aids Control Society, they have expanded their services to testing and treatment of HIV/AIDS, that was rising at an alarming rate.
Today MSF provides free medical treatments to about 200 patients every passing day from their three clinics located at Mata, Tuining and Matalambulane villages besides a complete human clinic within the township.
The agency in addition counsel patients of HIV/AIDS and bestowed the barely affordable treatment to more than 50 of them.
Upon inquiring, Ms Ria Tammerman, project coordinator of the agency claimed that they were on the process of expanding their outreach in treating HIV/AIDS patients and basic health services as well.
However, "We are just trying to fill the gap of the insufficient treatment and resources available in the district" Ria adds, when asked how will they react if more positive patients turn up on their clinics for treatment.
Being restricted to move only within the periphery of Lamka, officials of the Nobel Peace Prize and Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace and Disarmament Award winning Agency express their wish to move further into interior parts of the district where the general populace were more in need of their services.
