Imphal, April 15: Troops of 4 Rajputana Rifles posted at Goakhal under Jiri Police Station arrested three cadres of PULF from Butangkhal when they were extorting from a bamboo laden truck yesterday, reports our correspondent.

The arrested have been identified as Manir Khan (25) s/o Sukur Ali of Phailen, Sujan Das (22) s/o Chiton Das of Butangkhal and Seichan Hmar (19) s/o Mana Hmar of Bihunveng.

One single barrel gun, one double barrel gun, one country made pistol along with one live round and 12 cartridges have been reportedly recovered from the possession of the arrested activists.

However, the trio have confessed that they are dacoits and not UGs as alleged by the Army.

They said that their statement were taken under duress after severe thrashing.

They also alleged that Rs 11,880 recovered from them by the Army were not handed over to the police.

One double barrel was the only gun recovered from them and the rest were placed by the Army to support its false claim, they charged.

The trio have been handed over to Jiri PS.
