On behalf of petitioners Singongpou Pamei and Aram Pamei, residents of Tamenglong ward no 1 and 7 respectively, advocated Kh Chonjohn has submitted applications to the Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Additional Director and Member Secretary, Expert Appraisal Committee on River Valley and Hydroelectric Projects and the Chairman, Expert Committee for River Valley and Hydroelectric Projects, appealing to refrain from going ahead with the process of environmental clearance on Tipaimukh Project.
A press statement informed that the applications also cited the pendency of PIL in the Gauhati High Court, in which various important issues of public importance are involved.
Saying that the petitioners of the PIL who are being represented by the advocate have learnt of the Expert Committee for River Valley and Hydroelectric Projects is holding a meeting today to consider clearance of Tipaimukh Project, Chonjohn appealed to refrain from going ahead with the process of environmental clearance on Tipaimukh Project till the disposal of the said pending PIL in the general public interest and for the sake of justice.
