Even as All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) has announced its decision of launching intense agitation if four of its arrested members are not released without any condition at the earliest possible, Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (Imphal Area) has come out strongly against the police action of arresting four members and lodging them in jail.
In a statement, convenor of the student body Gangmei Gaichungpu charged the police with arresting the four AMADA members and later sending them to jail without proper investigation into the cause of the incident at Napetpalli under Lamlai PS.
Demanding release of the four AMADA members immediately and unconditionally, he also said that ZSUM Imphal area would extend moral support to the ongoing campaign against abuse of drugs and other intoxicants being spearheaded by AMADA.
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club here today, AMADA president L Tomba has stated that all the AMADA members and volunteers are ready launch intense agitation against the Government if it fails to release the four arrested members without any condition at the earliest possible.
'We would start off with democratic agitation and if it fails to evoke the conscience of the Government, they we would resort to undemocratic means', Tomba said, adding that the FIR registered against the four AMADA members under Section 326/342/307/34 IPC and lodging them in jail is really unfortunate.
NH-53 Kanglei Ching-Tam Leimalup, Manipur Ngal-hanba Apunba Lup, Kongkham Awang Youth and Coadjutant Club, District Youth Care Taker Forum, etc have also demanded release of the four AMADA members.
