Flaying the State Government for indifferent attitude to demands for arrest and punishing the real culprits behind the kidnapping and murder of Lungnila Elizabeth and establishing a separate Education Directorate for hill areas the Manipur University Tribal Students' Union strongly condemned police excesses to peaceful protestors yesterday.
Expressing strong resentment at the way State police force had acted in dispersing members and volunteers of All Tribal Students' Union Manipur that had congregated at near Johnstone Higher secondary School in pursuance of the twin demands MUTSU served an ultimatum to apologize for its action failing which the Government should bear any untoward consequences.
The student body also conveyed its gratitude to student organizations for successful conduct of the peaceful sit-in-protest in other hill districts.
Meanwhile, Movement for Tribal People's Rights Manipur asking to ATSUM to restrain while pursuing the twin agenda of Lungnila and establishment of the Separate Directorate has urged the latter to concentrate more on unfinished issue like the MBBS entrance test.
The Lungnila issue has now become a state-wide matter with even the underground outfits joining in the search for the real culprits and as such ATSUM need not consider the matter as its own, said a press release.
Need of the hour is to properly address the unfinished task of resolving the MBBS entrance test as not only live of several candidates are at risk but position of the whole tribal community are at the risk of being compromised, MTPRM stressed.
