Imphal, February 17:
Reiterating its stand for total scrapping of the Tipaimukh Hydroelectric (Multi-purpose) Project, Action Committee Against Tipaimukh Project (ACTIP) has construed the proposed visit of the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to Tamenglong district tomorrow as attempt to confuse the people of Manipur and to legitimise violation of laws by the Government of India with regard to laying of foundation stone of the Project.
In a statement issued to the press today, ACTIP functionaries highlighted that loss and suffering to be endured by the people far outweighs benefits projected by the Government.
Apart from pending legal proceedings on the Project and rampant partiality in the conduct of the recent public hearings, the Prime Ministers Office is employing pressure tactics to obtain forest and environmental clearance from the Ministry concerned, said the ACTIP statement.
Insisting that the memorandum signed between the State Govt and NEEPCO be revoked, ACTIP cautioned that failure to honour its proposal would constraint the Committee to embrace strong and vigorous agitation against all those colluding with the dam proponents.
