To study the ground reality on the report of large scale exodus of Hmar people from their homesteads to neighbouring Mizoram and the allegations of rape levelled against some militant cadres, a team of human rights activists will move to the areas tomorrow.
Following the outbreak of hostilities between the UNLF and the HPC (D) and the stand off between the Army and the UNLF, around 1000 Hmar people from Thanlon and Parbung had reportedly fled to Mizoram.
A serious allegation of rape has also been levelled against some UG cadres at Lungthulien in Churachandpur on January 16.Aram Pamei (team co-ordinator), Babloo Loitongbam (co-convenor) Joseph Hmar (co-convenor) Advocate M Rakesh and Elizabeth Hmar will study the situation at Aizawl, Sakowadai, Parbung, Lungthulien and Tipaimukh.
"We will personally interact with the internally displaced persons and record their plights and woes," said Babloo adding that besides studying the cause of the displacement, the fact finding team will also show solidarity with the villagers.
After studying the ground situation, the team will embark on a mission to ensure peace and harmony and recurrence of such unwanted episode in the future, added Babloo.
