Imphal, September 13:
Thanks to the failure of the State Government to release its share of the pro-rata shares for students pursuing technical courses outside the State, a large number of Manipuri students studying at three Homeopathy institutes in different parts of the country have been left high and dry.
Speaking to The Sangai Express a well placed source said that the State Government is yet to release about Rs 22 lakhs to three Homeopathy institutes as its pro-rata contribution.
The three institutes are Bengal Homeopathy Medical College and Hospital, Burdwan, North East Homeopathy Medical College and Hospital, Itanagar and Father Muller's Homeopathy Medical College and Hospital, Mangalore.
The amount owed to Bengal Homeopathy Medical College and Hospital is Rs 5,92,150 while the amount owed to North East Homeopathy Medical College is Rs 14, 68, 800 and Rs 1,40,000 to Father Muller's Homeopathy College.
The source said that not a single paise has been paid to the North East Homeopathy College since 2003 and today the amount has ballooned to over Rs 14 lakhs.
Students from Manipur studying at these colleges may be barred from appearing for their examination unless the Government coughs up its share of the pro-rata, said the source.
The supplementary examinations are scheduled to be held this month and the college authorities have already made it clear that if the pro-rata contributions are not cleared by the State Government, the students from Manipur will not be allowed to sit for the examination.
This is not the first such a situation has arisen.
Some years back, State nominees could not be admitted to RIMS as the State Govt had not cleared its pro-rata contributions.
In some cases, students who can afford it are known to have paid their share from their own pockets to avoid complications.
The amount is however later refunded by the State Govt.Following a hue and cry and pressure, the State Govt has started taking up the process of clearing its share of the pro-rata contributions.
