Raising a strong objection against the Government's plan to acquire agricultural land to build a power station 400 KW capacity at Yurembam, the people of Yurembam has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister today.
A large number of people coming in five buses were heading for the Chief Minister's office before they were blocked by police at Kwakeithel.
But police escorted five representatives of the protesters to the Chief Minister's office where they submitted a memorandum.
The memorandum demanded that the proposed power station be built on khasland or wetland rather than on agricultural land.
It further cautioned that the existing 132 KV power station located at Yurembam would be closed and different forms of agitation would be launched in case no positive response is forthcoming from the Government by January 5.Already, the local people have staged protest demonstrations under the stewardship of the Yurembam-Patsoi-Tabungkhok Land Protection Demand Committee against the Government's plan to acquire 45 sangams of paddy field located around Power Grid Corporation of India, Yurembam.
