Imphal, Jun 19:
An assessment programme undertaken by the Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA) in collaboration with experts from outside the State has discovered that the State is rich in renewable energy sources.
The study revealed that the State would be able to produce 694 MW of power.
An official source confirmed that 114 MW would be contributed by solar energy, 130 MW would come from small/mini/micro hydro electric plants, 150 MW would be generated from wind energy while biomass is expected to produce 300 MW of power.
It is reported that MANIREDA is currently undertaking ground survey works in Tamenglong, Senapati, Ukhrul, Chandel and Churachandpur districts to tap wind energy there and to supply electricity to the 928 villages of Manipur which are yet to be electrified.
