Imphal, February 24, 2010: For the second consecutive term, Dr Nimaichand Luwang has been unanimously re-elected the president of MPP for the term 2010-2012. This was announced by the State Returning Officer of MPP election during the party conference here today.

Presided over by Dr Luwang, the party conference held with the office complex of MPP was attended by its Legislature Wing leader O Joy, other party leaders, Central Committee members and workers.

With the permission of the conference, the State Returning Officer of the party election L Jatra announced re-election of Dr Luwang as the party president for the next term as well since no other notification paper had been filed to contest for the post of party president.

The post of the party president is elected by the party conference.

The Returning Officer further announced uncontested election of the five posts of the party's vice president as well as four members of the Disciplinary Committee, 10 members of the Working Committee and eight members of the Election Committee.

One post each in Disciplinary, Working and Election Committee are said to be still lying vacant as no nomination papers have been field.

Including the posts of the vice president, members of the committees are to be elected by the delegates of the Central Committee.

Apart from annulling the adhoc advisory committee and electing a seven-member advisory committee newly, today's party conference has also given approval to continuation of S Sanajaoba to the post of party's general secretary (administration) until finalisation on the appointment of new office bearers of the party.

The issue related to suspension of AK Sanaton, M Jadumani and M Binodkumar from the members of the party in 2007 by Disciplinary Committee was raised during the conference today and later referred to the newly elected working committee for necessary measures.

During the course of the conference, the women activists of the party, however, expressed unhappiness over exclusion of women representatives from the memberships of various committees and demanded reservation in this regard.

Consequently, Dr Luwang assured that one post of the members in disciplinary committee which is still vacant would be reserved for woman.
