Agriculture Minister Ph Parijat has informed that to avoid the pitfall of shortage of Urea faced by the farmers last year, adequate quantity of Urea has been kept in the stock ahead of the Kharif season this time.
Talking to media-persons today, the Agriculture Minister said Government of India has sanctioned 37,000 metric tonne of Urea as State quota for the Kharif season and appealed to the farmers to stock up their required fertiliser in advance.
Out of the total sanctioned quota, 30,000 metric tonne has to be lifted from Bramhaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation located at Namrup, Assam and remaining 7000 metric tonne from Indian Farmers Fertiliser Corporation at Guwahati.
The total State quota has to be lifted within April to September, he added.
So far 2142 metric tonne of Urea has been lifted from Namrup since April.
1503 metric tonne of Urea is remaining in the stock, after the rest have been distributed among the farmers, the Minister said, adding State quota of the Urea from Guwahati is yet to be lifted.
From the 2142 metric tonne of Urea lifted from Namrup, 1332 metric tonne had provided to Thoubal district, 414 metric tonne to Imphal East, 270 metric tonne to Imphal West, 90 metric tonne to Bishnupur district and 36 metric tonne to Senapati district, the Minister disclosed.
802 metric tonne of Urea is remaining in the stock for Thoubal district and 304 metric tonne for Imphal East while stock of Urea provided to other districts are still intact, the Minister said.
The Agriculture Minister further informed that the cost of one Urea bag in accordance to the rate fixed by the Govt of India is Rs 260.But it has been decided to fix the price and made it available to the farmers at Rs 290 per bag after including the taxes and transportation charges.
However, in the interest of the farmers, it is being considered to see whether the rate fixed by the Govt of India can be imposed after giving some subsidy, the Minister noted.
