Aizawl, August 31 (NNN):
The true picture of commercial sex workers in Mizoram, their lives and background, has been fully captured in a 196-page book, authored by controversial human rights activist Vanramchhuangi aka Ruatfela Nu which was released yesterday by Aizawl DC C Tawnluaia.
The book entitled Nawhchi Aiah Chanchin Tha is a novel about a female sex worker who found a new life in Jesus Christ after which she switched her trade - promoting the Gospel instead of selling her flesh.
The book is an outcome of interviews with more than 600 KS (prostitutes) in Mizoram which Ruatfela Nu single-handedly carried out for many years, said VL Zaikima, owner of Lengchhawn Press and publisher of the book, at the book release function at Vanapa Hall.
After going through the book, I have found that this rather thin book depicts the true picture of sex workers in Mizoram, their way of life and the family background from which most of these socially outcast people come, C Tawnluaia said while releasing the book.
The main character of the novel comes from a broken family and was a victim of minor rape from her cruel step-father.
She finally found herself selling her own flesh.
She found Jesus Christ through a caring Miss Mamawii.
Each line is an eye-opener.
The book gives us a lesson on how to approach these downtrodden people.
I appreciate Ruatfela Nus efforts in bringing out such a good book which is the need of the society, Tawnluaia said.
The copies of the book will be available at Rs 60 each at several book stores in the city and district capitals from today.
